Spotlight on Buskers: The Night Café

1 November, 2015

Old Bus Depot Markets busking duo, The Night Cafe playing guitar and flute

What do you get when you mix French café tunes, Cuban salsa, Brazilian bossa, Argentinian tango, songs from the Romany and Gypsy swing traditions and jazz standards? You get the wonderful sounds of Latin gypsy jazz ensemble The Night Café.

The Night Café is the finely honed musical partnership of guitarist Michael Dalvean and flutist and chanteuse Leila Gato. Since their first engagement at a cocktail affair at Old Parliament House six years ago, the duo have played across venues in the ACT from bars and cafes to vineyards, theatres, cultural institutions and festivals. Playing Jazz Manouche, French tunes, Latin and Jazz, the duo celebrates gorgeous rhythmic and lyrical traditions and draws the wide world into an intimate embrace.

You can catch Leila and Michael as The Night Café at the markets all day on Sunday 8 November.
