Market Entertainment: August 2018

1 August, 2018

It was great to have such talented performers grace the Markets stage last July. We were proud to present two choir groups in one month thanks to both AFK, and the Canberra Chordsmen whose melodious chorale were received quite warmly through the mid of winter.

Making sure we get off on the right foot, we have our friends from Jumptown Swing who are celebrating Canberra’s festival of swing, Canberräng, starting from the 2nd of August and will feature the Old Bus Depot Markets on the 5th. The talented Monique Lewis will also be playing this month. In her young career, she’s already performed in such venues as the Hyperdome and the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel in Thailand. Read on below to see our full list of performers including the jazz trio of Lambert & Co.

Monique Lewis

The 16-year old Canberra local has already garnered considerable experience by performing at Rising Star 2017 at the Hyperdome, the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel in Thailand and regularly at the Old Bus Depot Markets. Music has been a part of her life since playing on her grandmother’s piano at two years old, and playing the violin at the age of five. See a glimpse of her performances by following her on Facebook @MoniqueLewisOfficial.

Jumptown Swing

This Canberra-based swing dance group continues to sizzle. From the 2nd to the 5th of August, they’re swaying to the beat of Canberräng, which has been Canberra’s own festival of swing since 2003 and features the Old Bus Depot on 5 August from 11am-12pm. Visit their Facebook page @JumptownSwing to learn about their 4-Week Swing Dance Beginner Block and more exciting workshops still to come.

Lambert & Co

This trio has become a welcome staple to the markets with bassist and guitarist, Martin Lambert, having held the low-end groove for blues and jazz artists such as Whistler’s Mother, Three Bop, and John Beland of the Flying Burrito Brothers to name a few. Martin is accompanied by one of Canberra’s best-known guitarists, Col Bernau, and accomplished jazz guitarist, Phil Esau. Follow them on Facebook @Martin.Lambert60
