We’ve been in the Kingston Foreshore area now for 20 years, but we thought we’d like to share with you 10 little known facts about our markets. We bet you didn’t know that…

1. The upper level of the markets building used to be a bedroom for the Commonwealth Car fleet as well as Buses.
2. In 1998 we gave the former bus depot new life – and saved from it from a life full of vast quantities of pigeon poo.
3. Today there is still evidence of the bus driver’s smokos as you can see tea bags hanging from the ceiling on the lower level where they were thrown once used.
4. Since 1998, four buildings within close proximity to the markets building (two were attached) have been demolished.
5. There was underfloor heating to the upper level of the bus depot, which is no longer operational.
6. Over a quarter of the people who visit the markets each Sunday are from interstate or overseas.
7. The Old Bus Depot Markets is a privately owned business with a small long time team who manage the event each Sunday.
8. There are seven currently participating stallholders who had a stall on the very first Market day in September 1994.
9. On the very first Old Bus Depot Market day in September 1994, there were 36 stalls to greet the visitors.
10. The markets are of heritage significance, as when the former Transport Depot was constructed in 1940 -1941 they were an example of innovative engineering, technical achievement and design quality.
