What do a holiday in France, teaching dressmaking at CIT and Fashfest all have in common? They’ve been keeping designer Barbara Mickelson very busy for the past few years. And now this creative woman is back at the markets, bringing with her some truly exquisite creations.

Barbara is known for her amazing clothing, accessories and headwear. With a degree in fashion design from CIT, she creates a range of headwear from her hand dyed silks which she then weaves around wire to make organic shapes. Having created head wear since the 1980s, Barbara is skilled in both traditional millinery and more big and ‘out there’ creations.

She uses vintage buttons, vintage fabrics and trims that she sources from all over the place, and everything is made in her own studio just out of Goulburn. Barbara’s works are often bought for major events and she has also created for burlesque performers and vintage fairs. She was also one of the featured designers at Canberra’s recent Fashfest where 12 complete outfits were showcased.

BM Designs Headwear is now back at the markets every fortnight where you can select from pieces available onsite, or have Barbara make you a custom order.
